A distinct voice in European abstraction.
Born in Kranj, Slovenia in 1972, Uroš Paternu graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 1995 and completed his master’s degree in abstract painting in 2000. He received the Slovenian University Prešeren Award in 1996.
Across more than three decades, Paternu has developed a recognisable language in which colour is not applied to space—it creates it. His paintings remain physically immediate yet structurally exact, holding gesture and discipline in continuous tension.
